Australian-Hungarian soprano Eden Shifroni holds a Bachelor of Music (Classical Performance) and a Master of Music Studies (Opera Performance) from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Her stage roles have included Pamina (The Magic Flute) at the Vienna Summer Music Festival, Musetta (La bohème) and Suor Genovieffa (Suor Angelica) at the Mediterranean Opera Festival in Sicily, as well as Poppea in the Sydney Conservatorium and NIDA production of The Coronation of Poppea. This was the Australian premiere of Elena Kats-Chernin’s re-orchestration of Monteverdi’s work. At the Sydney Conservatorium, Eden also performed scenes as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier) and Yum-Yum (The Mikado) with the Sydney University Symphony Orchestra.
Her repertoire extends from Baroque to new music. In 2022, Eden created the role of Ada Crossley in the opera Percy by Australians John Matthews and Margery Smith and, in December 2023, she created the role of Jess in Track Works - a new site-specific pastiche opera at Sydney’s Mortuary Station. Theatre Now wrote: “The operatic voices soar in this vaulted space. None more so than Eden Shifroni’s crystal clear soprano…”. Concert appearances include those with Willoughby Symphony Orchestra (Vaughan-Williams’ Benedicite) and North Sydney Symphony Orchestra (Eric Zeisl’s Requiem Ebraico).
Eden is the recipient of the Dame Nellie Melba Scholarship, Patrick & Vivian Gordon Award and Ryman Healthcare Opera Scholarship with Melba Opera Trust. In 2024, Eden won Australia’s most prestigious singing competition, the IFAC Handa Australian Singing Competition, taking away the Marianne Mathy Scholarship. In addition to the Scholarship, Eden won the 2MBS Fine Music Sydney Promotion Prize, the MOST Audience Choice Prize, and the Opera Australia Audition Prize. In the same year, she also received the JSRB Foundation Award and the Audience Prize at the Joan Sutherland and Richard Bonynge Bel Canto Award Finals. In 2021, her love and passion for art song was recognised in the Demant Dreikurs Scholarship Song Competition - where she was awarded the audience prize and named overall winner. She was also a finalist in the 2022 Elizabeth Todd Lieder Competition.
